DRAMA PROGRAMS
Participants in all of our Drama programs will produce their own performances from scratch.
Through group activity, students will develop story ideas and improvisational skills, learn basic blocking techniques, develop voice control and have an opportunity to perform in front of their peers. All classes focus on active participation, and culminate in performances for the public. Individually designed private instruction is also available.
Shooting Stars Introduction to Drama
6 - 8 yrs
This class provides students with a broad overview of the many aspects involved in Drama, while fostering beneficial performance skills in a fun and encouraging environment. The class is designed for children who have had a minimal amount of exposure to the Performing Arts.
Critical thinking and self-awareness develop as students creatively examine various aspects of the Theatre through independent and ensemble acting, singing, dancing, and other forms of expression. Problem-solving skills are explored through drama games, movement, mime, tableaus, props usage, and voice development including choral speaking and chants.
Shining Stars Broadway Bound
9-11 years
This program is designed for students who have had some exposure to Drama, and have an interest in learning about themes related to the Performing Arts within a Theatre- based context. Moreover, it is for children who enjoy learning creatively through acting, singing, dancing, and other forms of expression.
Participants gain insight into a number of different skills attained through games, movement, blocking techniques, levels and tableaus, props usage, as well as voice work. Theatre “Lingo” such as “Picturization”, “Suspension of Disbelief”, and “Inward and Outward Movement” will also be examined.
Working interactively builds confidence and social development as children observe and learn from the strengths of others, while sharing their own unique talents.
Teen Drama
12 - 17 yrs
This performance - oriented class has been designed to encourages self-expression and confidence in the young teen.
All styles and media will be covered, including basic performance skills, creative dramatics, speech/diction and vocal techniques, make-up, scene-development, monologue, pantomime, improvisation, audition techniques, serious drama, comedy, and musical theatre with a focus on character study, script development and presentation, stage direction, improvisation and movement.
Participants spend a fun-filled time developing skills in acting, singing and dancing, prop making, costuming, make-up and FX, all leading up to a professionally produced talent showcase.
