VALENTIN BOGOLUBOV

Valentin Bogolubov had a well-established career as a concert pianist, conductor of Opera and vocal coach. Born in Latvia, he studied piano and choral conducting, winning First Prize in the Latvian Piano Competition and First Prize in the PanBaltic Piano Competition. He continued his studies at the Moscow Conservatory and served in turn as conductor of the Riga National Opera, Assistant Conductor at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, Artistic Director, founder and music director of the Riga Chamber Opera, Piano and Organ Teacher at the Latvian State Conservatory the Moscow Conservatory, Conductor at the Latvian National Opera, and principal conductor of the Latvian Musical Theatre as well as Conductor, Coach and Accompanist of the Latvian Opera and at the Université du Québec à Montréal.

He has been honoured with the Golden Laurel Award for recognition of his creative work, and has twice been the recipient of the Orpheus Award for outstanding solo performance of new tonal music from the Delian Society in the USA.

His recordings – Rachmaninoff: Chefs d’oeuvres méconnus; Liszt: La vallée d’Obermann; and Tchaikovsky: Rêverie – have all received critical acclaim, as have his CBC concert recordings.
