CASSANDRA BOURNE
Italian Diction

Singers will examine the physical enunciators used in both singing and in speech, and learn to identify and use the International Phonetic Alphabet or (IPA) system.

This is an Internationally recognized set of symbols which are used by singers to illustrate particular sounds.

This solitary system can be applied to multiple languages from around the world, and is an important tool for the singer.

In this 3-part seminar, students will examine the IPA and it’s practical application in Italian language, Art Song and Opera.
