ERIC SHAW
Drama for Singers - Preparing a Role

This wonderful Master Class with Eric Shaw will encourage students to find ways to make their music come more alive through intention, physicality, musical
ideas, and the like. Questions are highly encouraged!

Topics of discussion include a step by step breakdown of what is involved in preparing a role for performance, the singer’s responsibility for solo work and company
rehearsals, the similarities and differences between acting and drama on the Operatic Stage, Straight Theatre or Film, the basics of blocking and staging, the use of props
and costumes, as well as the benefits of improvisation training and techniques.

Singers will learn about the key players in a live show, what their roles are, how they influence the singer’s performance, what is expected of and from the Director, Conductor, Stage Manager, Lighting designer, stage hand, make-up, hair designer, other colleagues on the stage as well as what they may expect of you.

Participants are requested dress comfortably for movement, and be prepared to work physically.
