JACKALYN SHORT

Jackalyn Short is one of Canada's most critically acclaimed lyric coloratura sopranos. Her portrayal of Gilda in Pacific Opera Victoria's production of Verdi's RIGOLETTO was hailed as "an emotional storm, sung with serpentine beauty". Her performance of Oscar in Opera Hamilton's UN BALLO IN MASCHERA was called "enchanting, sung with a voice that was pure quicksilver and sunlight", she "stole the show as Adina... her coloratura is brilliant and her presence is captivating" at the Edmonton Opera.

The versatile Ms. Short has performed for Edmonton Opera, Vancouver Opera, Hawaii Opera Theatre, Chicago Opera Theatre. the National Arts Centre, Opera Lyra, the Victoria Symphony, the Vancouver Symphony, Opera Atelier, the Cleveland Opera, Toronto Operetta Theatre, the Kingston Symphony, Opera in Concert, Kitchener Waterloo Symphony, the Montreal Symphony, Manitoba Opera, Edmonton Opera, the Winnipeg Symphony, Christ Church Cathedral, Opera Lyra, Edmonton Opera, Toronto's Opera in Concert, the National Arts Centre, Toronto's Mendelssohn Choir, the Calgary Philharmonic and the Winnipeg Symphony's New Music Festival.

Ms. Short teaches at the University of Western Ontario, has been heard often on CBC radio's contemporary music programmes, and has been the recipient of several grants and awards, including a short-term study grant and the prestigious Career Development Grant from the Canada Council for the Arts.
